Artist Recreates Historical Figures as Adorable Cats and Dogs
1 Marie Antoinette
One can't help to think that the artist, Christina Hess, has a bit of a laugh when conjuring up her creative illustrations of cats and dogs portrayed as famous historical figures. Who doesn't enjoy dressing-up their beloved pet, right? Hess gets to have fun doing just that but with her paintbrush. What would the Queen of France say if she was reincarnated as a feline? "Let them eat catnip!"
2 What Do Animals Have To Do With History?
The artist and illustrator Christina Hess created a book for children and adults, including an e-book of her illustrations of cats and dogs as historical characters. Alongside the images are stories of historical events with “a twist of imagination”. For instance, this painting would explain about the prominent French Revolution military and political leader Napoleon, but with a bit of embellishment. Evidently, Hess said she was thinking of her late dog Roscoe here, an adorable Basset Hound. Aww..
3 Joan Of Arc
This may not be who we envision in our minds when we think of the national heroine of France, but she is all the more brave and strong in the form of a German Shepherd! These dogs are loyal, confident and courageous, and Hess does match those qualities to Joan of Arc perfectly! We just need to remember there are female German Shepherd too!
4 Egypt's Cleopatra
We agree with Hess here! The popular legends of Cleopatra reveal that she was quite a feline character. She maneuvered sleekly and seductively into the political and romantic lives of powerful men. Historical records show that Cleopatra committed suicide with a bite of a poisonous snake, as symbolized in Hess’ painting. Her lover and partner, Mark Antony soon followed by stabbing himself to death. Ahh, that’s so sad!
5 Jean Lafitte
You may be thinking of Captain Jack Sparrow of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film series, but Christina Hess’ specialty is in real life historical figures! Her dog dressed as a pirate here is actually Jean Lafitte, and perhaps Johnny Depp was channeling him, what do you think? The Frenchman, was a notorious pirate and a privateer in the early 19th century operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Hess’s painting does capture him well!
6 The Virgin Queen of England?
We’re thinking the Virgin Queen aka Queen Elizabeth? Or could it be her cousin Mary, Queen of Scots? Queen Elizabeth in early portraits certainly was prone to outdo Queen Mary with her incredible fancy dress, and Hess’s cat is stylin’ with almost the exact Elizabethan costuming that Queen Elizabeth wore. Did you know Queen Mary was executed by Queen Elizabeth's order? But then did you notice that poor “mouse” in this painting? Such a tragedy!
7 Jizo Bodhisattva
If you look closely at this painting there is so much to see! Do you spy on the little koala bear on his arm? This is one of Japan’s favorite Buddha deities who’s usually portrayed as a monk, but can also appear in many forms, like perhaps a cat? Jizo Bodhisattva is known as the protector of children and like a superhero, he’s saves people when most needed.
8 King Henry V
Hess portrays King Henry V as a German Shepard in military garb with the old flag of England. Who is King Henry V? He ruled over England in the 15th century and battled with France in the ‘Hundred Years' War’. Although recognized for great victories it was his marriage to King Charles VI of France’s daughter that sealed his rule over France. Hess paints him with a “halo” as the king was known for his religious piousness.
9 Could It Be Braveheart?
This character is a mystery! Is it William Wallace, Braveheart of Scotland? The Scottish landowner led the ‘Wars of Scottish Independence’ and he would be as fierce as this sheep dog donning a tartan and sword. Do you see the crowned hedgehog on his sleeve? Could that be his nemesis, King Edward I of England? Yeah, this surely is Braveheart!
10 Mr. & Mrs. F. Scott Fitzgerald
The real “Mr. & Mrs.” was one of the most notorious American couples ever during the “Roaring Twenties". How did Hess get started on her illustration venture? She said for funding she offered original artwork of people’s pets as their choice of historical figures. Hess claims sometimes the personality of these pets matched the historical figure’s personality!

it.. Sometimes the enjoyment of eating together really enhances a
relationship. But why would you want to ink this image on your back?
Wait, are those octopuses or snakes supposed to be tongues.. eww!
2 Wanted This, But Got
Here's a good reason to check a tattoo artist's portfolio before they begin to ink on you! "Geez, thanks Dad!" She may not care while she's young but years down the line, when her friends come over, it'll be pure torture! Even Lord Voldemort is less frightening than that portrait! Epic!
3 Trying To Be Invincible?
He's started with a few decent tats, but then the bloody bullet wounds.. why? You never know what you might wake-up with the morning after partying too much, even if you feel "invincible". Hopefully it wasn't all his idea.. he'll need someone or something to share the blame for this one.
4 A Self-Imposed Curse
If you want people to runaway screaming, tattoo a big ole 3-D black spider in the middle of your face! Can you imagine? This just rendered him unemployable, and worse, he'll never-ever be kissed again, poor fellow.

Being that he's taking a selfie to show how pleased he is means he probably hasn't caught on yet. Although he's pretty proud of his new tat, wait till this pic hits his social media feed.. ugh! He'll probably be heading back for a redo very soon!

Everything about this starts off interesting and kinda creative, then boom! Your eyes go down to the cupcake. What's the unicorn really doing there? Cooking-up.. peeing-up a cupcake? It's "#1", so perhaps it's miracle #1!

So you're known around town for having a plumber's butt, and you want to make some extra cash? What do you have to lose with this tat idea, right? No, wrong! Sometimes people forget getting a tattoo is permanent. If you're not reminded of it in the future, others likely won't let you forget.
8 How To
The trick is to tattoo your maddest self-portrait on the backside of your shaved head, so you'll feel protected forever. What makes this creepy is this portrait has a mustache, goatee AND eyebrows! The idea might work well for a bouncer, but surely won't impress the in-laws!
9 How Many
Do you think this guy gets a mouthful of "comments" on the misspell? Tattoo artists would be wise to have a dictionary on-hand in their parlors. Can you imagine when this guy finds out?.. and he thought he was being clever. Thankfully he can always grow his hair out.
This Unbelievable House in Australia Seems to Float Above Sea (10 picture)
Using tricks of perspective and elegant modern architecture, the architects behind the Australia F2 Architecture firm have created a floating luxury rental home that appears to hover above the coast of Southern Australia.
The illusion is spoiled from any other approach than the bridge at the entryway, but the building is still no less appealing. From another angle, it becomes clear that the building is built on a pole that lifts it 40m (or about 130 feet) above the slope below it. Once you’ve crossed the bridge to the building itself (and provided you aren’t afraid of heights), you’ll be greeted with a spectacular and commanding view of Fairhaven Beach and the Great Ocean Road below.
The building can be rented for between AUD$440 and 1,220 a night, and it’s not kid- or pet-friendly, so it’s definitely for those looking for a luxurious getaway for two!

Australian architects created a magnificent rental house on a beach in Southern Australia that seems to float above the sea.
2 The Home's Illusion
The illusion is deceptive and the experience disappears as soon as you walk away from the bridge that connects the house to the ground.
3 Home Sits On A Pole
Looking at the house from this perspective, you can see that it's built on a 130 ft. tall pole that helps create the perfect illusion.
4 The Views!
The luxurious home provides a breathtaking view of Fairhaven Beach and the Great Ocean Road below in Southern Australia.
5 A 'Floaty' Feel
Looking out at the views perched from above, one can't help feel as if they're floating even while standing on solid ground within the home. The living room's fireplace even floats while suspended from the ceiling..
6 A Simple Modern Design
Clean and uncluttered, the designers set out to create a contemporary interior with modern furniture that carries through with the home's exterior.
7 Spectacular Frameless Windows
The home is adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, offering a 180 degree view of the Southern Ocean.
8 The Home's Bridge
The only access is by a narrow concrete bridge, and as visitors reach the home, the entrance is recessed into metal clad walls that face the hillside.
9 Wraparound Balconies
There are also wraparound balconies that offer panoramic views of Fairhaven Beach and the hillside. The home's scale compared to its landscape makes it appear almost modest in proportion.
10 A Romantic Holiday
The rental is more of a luxurious suite than family accommodations, it's the perfect holiday destination to experience an ocean escape with solitude. Rents start at $359 - $997 US dollars for an overnight stay.

Awesome Cat Tattoos (15 picture)

We’ve all seen plenty of traditional sailor tattoos with the words “be
mine” inked underneath, but when you combine this with a cute kitten
wearing a sailor outfit, you’ve got yourself one super special tattoo!
We can imagine this available cat tattoo design is very popular among
the feline-lovers of the world, and we love the bright colors, bold
black outlines, and the retro feel of it.

Just how could anyone say no to such a sweet thing, especially with
those big blue eyes?! It's interesting to see how far the traditional
sailor tattoo has come. Once a simple anchor with text scrawled around

2 Kitty Gang?
This is possibly one of the cutest, quirkiest (and saddest?) cat tattoos we’ve ever seen! Cats aren’t usually known to be part of a gang, and we can only imagine the ‘kitty gang’ is full of fluffy kitties chasing balls of yarn. But if this kitty tattoo is anything to go by, then perhaps the ‘kitty gang’ isn’t nearly as tame as we think.Just look at that sinister black eye, and who knows just what that dainty heart eye-patch is covering! 3 Cats Want Fun Too!
You might remember Cyndi Lauper’s famous hit released in 1983, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”, but we bet you didn’t realize their was a lesser known cat version. This person must have thought cats' wishes to “just have fun” was a cause worth fighting for, and thought they would get a huge tattoo across their upper back just to get the message out there.We love the crazy triangular design of this tattoo, and think the cat’s head is adorable! The tattoo artist responsible for this tattoo should be very proud of themselves; not only did they manage to create a one-of-a-kind tattoo design, but the 3-dimensional effect achieved through the layering of the text is especially to be applauded.
4 Moppet, Mittens and Tom Kitten!
It’s everybody’s favorite Beatrix Potter characters in cat tattoo - Tabitha Twitchit and her three naughty kittens, Moppet, Mittens and Tom Kitten! Beatrix Potter was an English author and illustrator who is best known for her much-loved children's books such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit. This very cool tattoo depicts a scene from The Tale of Tom Kitten, when the mother cat is washing her children and about to dress them in their finest clothes before some guests arrive – Too cute!Moppet, Mittens and Tom Kitten are notoriously mischievous, and are a symbol of playfulness and childlike curiosity. Obviously a huge Beatrix Potter fan, we wonder if this person has any other tattoos on their body inspired by the childhood classic. We love the soft colors of this tattoo and its famous (and extremely adorable) subjects.
5 Grumpy Cat Forever
Oh no, it’s grumpy cat, and it looks like she is back with a vengeance! We’re not so sure that this tattoo carries a very positive life message (hate everything..?) but the idea behind it certainly is understandable. While internet-famous grumpy cat already seems grumpy enough, mix her with an ‘emo’ cat, and you’ve got yourself this instant classic.When Grumpy Cat’s owner’s brother posted a photo of the cat pulling a grumpy expression on reddit back in 2012, we bet he didn’t expect the cat to end up tattooed on someone’s leg. We also bet he didn’t expect Grumpy Cat to star in her own documentary, appear on Good Morning America, be “interviewed” for Forbes or get a book publishing deal…It's Grumpy Cat's world, we're just living in it.
6 Cheshire Grin
No, you’re not seeing things – It’s the Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland! The Cheshire Cat is most famous for his ability to be able to appear and disappear at will, and the character constantly amuses Alice with his endless philosophical questions. There’s something about those razor-sharp looking teeth, those icy blue eyes and that maniacal stare though in this tattoo that has us more than a little freaked out…There’s no denying that the tattoo artist responsible for this childhood classic inspired design is certainly talented, and just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither would this tattoo have been finished in a day!
7 Saint Kittykins
There are those people who love their cat, then there are some people who worship their cats as saints and gods…That’s right, this kitty-tattooed person definitely belongs to the latter category! We’re not sure if they’ve read the bible or not, but someone ought to remind them there were certainly no cats in it! Jokes aside, we love this tattoo, and think it’s nice for a change to see someone giving cats the recognition they deserve – dogs might be loyal and protective, but it’s our feline friends who act more like Mother Teresa (providing that you feed them on time of course…) The amount of detail involved in getting this tattoo just right must have been challenging, but this talented tattoo artist seems to have pulled it off with ease.
8 What A Gentleman!
That’s one dapper-looking cat tattoo, but then again what cat isn't dapper? Still, It’s not often that you see a cat with a top hat, a monocle, and a velvet suit. We absolutely love the delicate detailing of this tattoo, from the colors of the cat’s eye to the satin-look of the red ribbon and bow.It’s tattoos like this one that really set the cat tattoo genre apart from the rest – This tattoo artist must have really meant business! Now, if only every cat could behave as well as this gentleman.
9 Who's Pusheen?
This might just look like a tattoo of a fat cat eating noodles, but did you know that this cat is a popular meme character, commonly referred to as Pusheen? Pusheen is a fully-fledged celebrity it seems, as the character developed from a web comic called ‘Everyday Cute’ and she now has her own Facebook page, Tumblr and Twitter (all of which contain thousands of followers!) Pusheen also has a tonne of merchandise available featuring the much-loved character, and Pusheen was even "interviewed" for the famous Tumblr Storyboard - Crazy, huh? This person must have been a little more than obsessed with the fat and grey tabby cat to get it tattooed permanently to them!
10 Cat Crammed!
If we had to give this crazy tattoo a name, we would probably go with “kitty orgy”. Never before have we seen a sleeve tattoo crammed full of cats – literally, they’re in every nook and cranny. Fat cats, skinny cats, pirate cats and guitar-playing cats…you name it, they’re in here! We love the cartoon nature of this comical tattoo, as well as the use of limited color.This tattoo must have taken an extremely long time to complete, and even now we can’t even be sure it’s the finished product. One thing is for sure though, and that is the fact that when it comes to kitty-obsessed tattoos, this one takes the cake!
11 Tea Time
Well, we may be wrong, but it looks like a cat reading a book about rodents, surrounded by…rodents. It seems like this classy cat enjoys reading under the light of a fancy lamp with a cup of fancy tea. What we find most striking about this tattoo are the vibrant colors and the way it really sets the scene – this kitty means business!We wonder how long it took the tattoo artist to complete this work of art though, because it certainly doesn’t look like a one-day job! It isn't often that you see a tattoo that seems to tell a story like this one, so whoever is behind this tattoo idea should really be congratulated!

Isn’t this one of the cutest pictures you’ve ever seen? This little kitten has confused its owner’s tattoo of a cat as the real thing, and we can’t decide which is cuter! Black cats might mean bad luck to those who are superstitious, but the person who’s proudly parading this awesome tattoo certainly must not think so.We love the matching surprised looks on each of the kitty’s faces, and those big eyes. Lets just hope that kitty doesn't get too scratch-happy with that tattoo, otherwise the result might not be so pretty!

This person must either be really fond of cats, or wants a permanent portrait of her own ginger tabby on her thigh – it doesn’t really matter what the reason is to us though, because that is one super tattoo! A little bit ‘cat lady’ mixed with ‘kitsch’ is never a bad thing in anyone’s eyes.The tattoo artist responsible should be proud – it’s not every day that you see a cute cat tattoo as unique and colourful as this one. We’re especially loving the realistic detailing of that ginger fur!
14 Lucky Cat
This tattoo consists of a Chinese Lucky Cat and a moth with a skull for a head –Very interesting combination indeed! We love the bright colors and the quirky detailing of this design. When the Chinese Lucky Cat is raiding its left paw, it is believed to bring wealth and prosperity, as opposed to when it is raising its right paw, which is a symbol of protection and security according to Feng Shui. So this tattoo not only looks great, but has numerous good luck properties associated with it too– Now that’s one awesome (and clever) tattoo!
15 Four Eyes?
We don’t mean to point out the obvious, but this cat has four eyes…and it’s creeping us out! While most cat tattoos are portraits of the person’s own pet cat, let’s hope this isn’t the case for this tattoo! Otherwise the authorities should probably be alerted – there’s a mutant cat walking around out there! We love the amount of detail that has gone into this tattoo though, as achieving the realistic look of fur is definitely not easy! This crazy cat tattoo is something that would require people to look at it twice…or four times…
