That's why photographer Seth Casteel started photographing them underwater a couple of years ago. Since then, he hasn't been able to stop. He now photographs dogs for a living, mostly underwater.3
His book of underwater dog photos, aptly titled "Underwater Dogs," was the best-selling photography book in 2012. As of this writing, he's photographed over 250 submerged canines. Here's a pup who's looking happy to have a portrait taken.4
This pup just has to have that ball! It must have dived with plenty of speed to stir up all those bubbles. That is one enthusiastic pooch!5
Seth volunteered to take photos of homeless animals in 2007, helping to find many of them new homes. They may not have been underwater, but it still worked. The number of dogs that were adopted from that shelter increased substantially just after the photo shoots.6
Seth spends much of his time these days photographing pets. He accepts commissions and shows his work in galleries all over the world. Sounds like pretty scary work: the pooch in this pic looks like he's coming to get us!7
Casteel's dog photos have also appeared in National Geographic and the New York Times, as well as countless magazines and television shows. It's not every day that someone's love of animals makes them somewhat of a celebrity. But this doesn't even look like an animal; is it some kind of alien life form?http://www.barnorama.com/

Seth has been volunteering with pet shelters internationally for over 6 years. He works with a charity called "One Picture Saves a Life," which provides shelter staff with the resources and skills to take quality photos of their rescue dogs, in order to help them find homes. And who could say no to a pal like this one?http://i.imgur.com/

This pup is clearly keeping his eye on the ball. What could be going through his mind at this moment? That ball must be his!http://i.imgur.com/

Seth currently has four dog tattoos, each based on his own underwater photographs. He plans on getting more. Would this make a good tattoo?http://shockerdaily.com/

This little buddy looks so happy! We bet it's not too easy to get that ball away from her. How long do you think it takes for this little pup to dry?http://thatslikewhoa.com/

Even though this canine is just having fun, it looks like she's going in for the kill. Those teeth don't exactly look friendly. Neither do the eyes.http://thatslikewhoa.com/
13
Who'll get to that ball first? These two look like they usually play nice together. But for now, it's dog-eat-dog.http://thatslikewhoa.com/
14
There's no stopping this one. It looks like a full-on bellyflop. That ball will be his, or else!http://thatslikewhoa.com/

This looks more like an abstract painting than a photo. It's like something out of a slightly uncomfortable dream. Or maybe a creepy creature from the deep!http://thatslikewhoa.com/
16
This one has some mad diving skills. Who knew dogs could be so good at it? There's no ocean to deep to keep this puppy from her toy.17
This might just be the most adorable underwater dog photo on Earth. If we could cuddle with a dog underwater, now would be the time. We just want to save this little pooch from drowning, even though he probably isn't.http://thatslikewhoa.com/

This one must not like getting wet. He grabbed the ball without even jumping in. Well, the water isn't exactly for everyone.http://www.animalzoo.ro/

This pup reminds us of Bowser, Mario's arch nemesis. Attacking that poor ball, which Mario now must save. What do you think?http://www.animalzoo.ro/

This fierce-looking battle is really just playful good times. We hope! But what happens if they both get it? Well, we're rooting for the one on the left!http://www.animalzoo.ro/
